The castle

Dominating the village of Vogüé, on the banks of the Ardèche, this imposing château is one of the must-see monuments. Built in the late 12th century on the orders of Raymond I de Vogüé, the building was refurbished in Renaissance style in 1603.

It was at this time that the hanging garden was created. The château is well worth a visit, both for its architecture and sublime gardens, and for the unique views they afford.

The village

An amphitheatrical village overlooking the Ardèche River, Vogüé’s old town is incredibly charming. This picturesque site is first and foremost renowned for its exceptional panoramas, which you can discover as you stroll through the village.

In the narrow streets of the old village, you can also admire the typical Ardèche cottages, with their stone calades. At the foot of the village, you’ll find a lovely beach for swimming.
